Automated Lead Scoring: Stop Wasting Sales Calls on Unqualified Leads
Not all leads are created equal. Discover how to use CRM data to automatically score, rank, and route only the highest-intent prospects to your calendar.
One of the biggest complaints from sales teams is that "the leads are bad." But often, the leads aren't bad—they're just not ready to buy yet. If you treat a prospect who just downloaded a top-of-funnel PDF the same way you treat someone who visited your pricing page three times today, your sales team is going to burn out.
What is Automated Lead Scoring?
Lead scoring is a methodology used to rank prospects against a scale that represents the perceived value each lead represents to the organization. By assigning points for specific actions, your CRM mathematically determines who is hot and who is cold.
How to Set Up Your Scoring Matrix
A strong lead scoring model combines demographic data (who they are) with behavioral data (what they do):
- +5 Points: Opens an email.
- +10 Points: Clicks a link in an email.
- +20 Points: Visits the pricing page.
- +50 Points: Submits a high-intent contact form.
- -15 Points: Unsubscribes or hasn't opened an email in 60 days.
Automating the Handoff
Once a lead hits a certain threshold (e.g., 100 points), your CRM should automatically trigger an action. It can notify a sales rep on Slack, move the lead to a "Hot" pipeline stage, or trigger an automated email inviting them to book a call. Everyone below 100 points stays in the automated nurturing sequence.
